A single vocal note led the filmmaker to star alongside Stephen Graham in new Sam Fender music video
A voice note seeking advice from a Coalville filmmaker led him to play a role in the creation of Sam Fender’s new music video with Hollywood actor Stephen Graham.
Ian Hodges, the co-founder of Gatling Gun Productions, thought he would be just a helpful guide for Line of Duty star’s wife and fellow actress, Hannah Walters, after asking for advice on where to go. upcoming shoot.
But that quickly changed when Ian joined the production of Spit of You, even taking on a small additional role.

Shot at various locations around Ibstock, where Stephen and Hannah live, the video shows the beloved actor playing the role of Sam’s father as they play out the faltering relationship between the musician and his father.
“I thought they absolutely broke it,” Ian told Leicestershire Live.
âSam is a great boy who had such a great vision for the video. The fact that it’s based on his real life makes it all the more compelling on screen. He and Stephen are fantastic.
âSam said he hadn’t played since he was 17, but you wouldn’t know. I told him he was a great actor and it showed. As for Stephen, you could watch him do anything and you’d be hooked.
Initially purely an advisor, Ian quickly became a production assistant on the set of Spit of Yo ‘, helping it run smoothly alongside the main production team from London.
The Ibstock link for everyone involved has been fully utilized with outdoor shoots including Gatling Gun’s own studios and the Wagon and Horses pub on Curzon Street where Ian is seen as an extra, playing pool alongside Stephen .
But the nature of the Hollywood star’s busy schedule meant the video had to be filmed quickly.
âWe had a day to do it all. We had been preparing for a few days before, but we had to get everything that day because Stephen had a few other things in place, âIan continued.
âEveryone was busy though. Sam had a gig the night before and was understandably exhausted when he came to shoot, but he was so professional and such a great sport that it all went so well.
âThe only catch was Sam wanted a black shirt for the final scene of the video. We didn’t have one so I gave him mine. We swapped shirts, funny enough.
For Ian, who previously worked with Stephen and Hannah as part of his job at Gatling Gun Productions, he spoke of his continued admiration for the husband and wife duo.
âStephen and Hannah are so great to work with and be with them. You learn so much from them and they are great company, âhe said.
âEvery time I meet Stephen it’s like seeing an old friend; we’re talking about our families and everything else.
âHannah is also a delight, she was really great on the production side for the video and is a brilliant actress in her own right. Both are wonderful people.
Calling the experience a delight from start to finish, Ian added, âIt was an absolute privilege to be involved in the video and to be invited to participate in it. What a pleasure to have after just having a single vocal note.
