Composer RuthAnne reveals the magic behind ‘Toy Show: The Musical’

Grammy-nominated RuthAnne has never been one to forget her roots, having reached heights that many in the music industry could only dream of, the best songwriter still manages to keep her feet on the ground.
After making her TV debut as a Toy Show kid with a twinkle in her eye, RuthAnne will now return to where it all began, as she sets out to compose the highly anticipated ‘Toy Show – The Musical’. .
Extra.ie recently caught up with RuthAnne to discuss all things music and the emotions that come with this “loop moment”.
“It was top secret and I was really excited to be asked, because I was a Toy Show kid myself,” the songwriter began, recounting the moment the show’s producers held out his hand.
“I performed on The Toy Show when I was nine with Gay Byrne, and it was my first time singing a solo on TV, so yeah, it’s really exciting, it’s like a moment loop.”
‘All The Same’, the highly anticipated show’s first track was released on May 13, with RuthAnne debuting with a very special version of the song alongside former Toy Show kids.
“The song was just to remind people to love each other, to talk to each other and to be there for each other, through joy and pain,” the composer insisted.
‘We are all the same. In the end, we go through the same things. And we just, sometimes, we forget that. We are all just humans doing our best.
“When I heard the story and the script for the musical, I knew it was the perfect song for the story we are telling and for the families and for the children, the messages for the children and all that kind. This is probably the most moving song in the series.
Capturing the true essence of a national phenomenon is no easy task, but RuthAnne is confident they will be able to accurately embody everything that makes The Toy Show so magical.
“It’s still light and dark, and there’s still emotional parts and fun parts, but the characters really go on a journey and so it kind of makes it easier for us to work that way – that every character has a journey.”
There’s no doubt that the impending show will delight kids across the country with its soundtrack, with the top songwriter eager to give every kid in the country their own Toy Show experience.
“I want the kids to leave singing the songs and wanting to listen to the songs. It’s another way for kids to feel magical and creative… I think we want to bring all that magic to Toy Show Musical and make every kid in the theater feel special.
“The Toy Show has a way of making everyone feel like a kid again. It just has that innocence about it and has everything to make you feel good and feel connected and you feel present, and I think the musical is going to do the exact same thing.
