for KING AND COUNTRY grateful for parental sacrifices – Music News
for KING COUNTRY paid tribute to the “sacrifices” their mother made for them.
Brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone – who have five other siblings – wrote their track ‘Unsung Hero in honor of their parents and all they did for them, and ahead of Mother’s Day in the UK United on March 27, they praised their mother Helen for being a great example of a “strong woman”.
Joel said: “Luke and I were both blessed to grow up in a home full of love from our parents up and down – from our parents to us seven children.
“Our mother has really been a source of encouragement for us and an example of a strong woman.
“We think it’s so important to acknowledge the parent figures in our lives who really sacrifice a lot, which is one of the many reasons we wrote ‘Unsung Hero’ to really say that to our parents, and on Mother’s Day, our mom, Helen.”
The group has just released a new album, ‘What Are We Waiting For?’ – which features ‘Unsung Hero – and the record allowed them to reflect on the impact of the past two years of the coronavirus pandemic and how the brothers hope to move forward into a “bright future”.
Luke said: “The past two years have been very unique for all of us. It was a strange time. As you go through difficulties, you end up asking yourself interesting questions such as “What am I doing with my life? », « Why do I want to be known? », « Why do I live? I think the phrase, What are we waiting for? captures the meaning behind this album.”
Joel added: “Over the last few years we’ve gone from knowing what’s going on to worrying. This album was a way of looking at and writing about – from a family point of view, d from a spiritual point of view and from a global point of view – this album of global suffering that we have all been through.
Our hope is that this title means something slightly different to each of us. This album is an opportunity for us, together, to set off again together towards what we believe to be a very bright future.”
‘What are we waiting for?’ is out now and for KING COUNTRY will be streaming a free online performance experience, ‘What Are We Waiting For? The Worldwide Special’ on Facebook and YouTube on March 21.
