Lauren Jauregui releases “Colors” from her solo debut
“Colors” begins by filling the space with piano and airy strings before descending into a lush R&B style drum beat, ending with Jauregui reciting: “I’m actually not addicted to drugs / I’m addicted to feeling f – king numb. “
Speaking about the song, Lauren reveals, “When you paint a wall, you have to paint over what’s underneath. I try to convince myself that I am someone that I am not, ”she explains. “The song is a literal conversation. When everyone’s gone it’s just you and me. You can paint on the wall, but you can’t erase them all. I let myself know that no matter what happens, I have to be okay with myself. You can’t run away because all of your layers will still be there. You have to learn to see and accept them.
Along with the new music, Jauregui also revealed in an interview with commotion that she takes full creative control of her new solo journey, releases music in partnership with AWAL Recordings and is executive producer on her upcoming album. Fifth Harmony took an indefinite hiatus in March 2018.
According to Lauren, “My music is about getting to the bottom of what I’m feeling… Now I have the freedom to explore all the different ways I can express myself. My art is a witness of my growth. “
