Mike Dean, Jeff Bhasker Joint Show Draws A-Listers Travis Scott, More
Separately from each other, producers Mike Dean (pictured above) and Jeff Bhasker (below) are both synth gods in their own right. As a unit, performing their first show on Friday, April 1 at OffSunset in West Hollywood, the two were otherworldly.
The intimate set brought together Kanye West’s collaborators, who each have five Grammy Awards, and included a star guest list who both teased on social media ahead of the event. Music celebrities in attendance included Travis Scott, Diddy, Ludacris, Diplo, Rita Ora and Ludacris; actors Kate Beckinsale and Casey Affleck; music producers Metro Boomin, Rostam and Anthony Rossamondo; as well as music executives Mike Caren, founder and CEO of APG, and Ron Perry, president of Columbia Records.
That the show was scheduled two days before the Grammys, which take place in Las Vegas on April 3, was no coincidence since West’s “Donda” is up for multiple awards, including the album. year.
The evening began at midnight, when Dean and Bhasker took the stage – wearing the former Nike Air Yeezy 1 Blink and a Gallery Dept shirt, and the latter in Nike Air Yeezy 2 NRG. Highlights from the 30-minute set included their versions of “we’re young” for fun. (which Bhasker produced), Kanye West’s “Runaway”, the demo version of Beyonce’s “Party” by Bhaker and endless freestyle on both guitar and a host of synthesizers including the Juno 106, the Moog Voyager Electric Blue and the Korg Triton Extreme.
“The show was a complete auditory assault on the crowd,” says Dean, who was honored by Variety as Producer of the Year 2021. “Great night, epic music, epic guests. Thanks to everyone who came. Great jam with Jeff!”
Bhasker echoed the sentiment, saying Variety“What an incredible atmosphere in the room! So excited to be on stage again after two years and with my brother, the incomparable Mike Dean.
Both producers have an extensive catalog and credits on West’s influential albums “808s & Heartbreak”, “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” and “Donda”, among many others. They have also worked with artists such as Beyonce and Kid Cudi. It is not yet known if the two will do more joint shows in the near future.
