Music at the Mural concert series kicks off at Schines Art Park
United in Harmony kicked off the Bucyrus Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual Music at the Mural concert series on Thursday night.
The local male choir performed a variety of older tunes on a pleasantly cool and sunny evening.
All concerts in the series are scheduled from 7:30-9:00 p.m. Thursdays at Schines Art Park at South Sandusky Avenue and East Warren Street.
Unlike in recent years, there will be no concerts in the park during the chamber’s First Friday events, said chamber executive director Jessie Furner.
“People didn’t stay to watch the concerts because they wanted to walk around on the first Friday, which is what we want people to do,” Furner said.
Upcoming Thursday concerts include 60 Days, June 16; Baker 47, June 30; The Rolling Hams, July 14; Lesser Known Poets, July 28; The Hobos, August 11; The Devil Doves, August 25; and perfectly damaged, September 9th.
Most of the artists have performed as part of the concert series in previous years, but Baker 47 is a new addition, she said.
“We’ve changed our sponsorships, so we have an annual sponsorship unique to the chamber, and that’s why we have the platinum, gold, silver, etc. sponsors that you’ll see represented…at the art park,” , said Fourner. “So all the sponsors are helping out at all the events.”
Another change expected soon: Those attending concerts will be able to enjoy alcoholic beverages purchased at downtown establishments once the city’s designated outdoor refreshment area, or DORA, comes into effect.
Bucyrus City Council approved the city’s DORA plan on April 19. Before it takes effect, the legislation must be reviewed by Ohio’s Division of Liquor Control to ensure the city’s plan complies with state laws.
“I communicated directly with Ohio State Liquor Control and continued to work with the City of Bucyrus and the Crawford Partnership to move forward with DORA,” Furner said. “We’ve got the cups, we’ve got the signs; we’re just waiting for the state.
