Music at the Oscars in preparation for the show: No Van Morrison, Beyonce At the Courts, Reba for the Country Crowd
The Oscars are lining up their musical numbers for Sunday.
We still don’t have any confirmed word on Billie Eilish or the cast of “Encanto,” but they seem like safe bets.
I can tell you that my sources at Van Morrison confirm that he won’t be playing ‘Down to Joy’ from ‘Belfast’. Since the Academy would leave him without a mask or even a vaccine, that is not the question. Or maybe he doesn’t want to take a COVID test. Van walks towards his own weird drummer.
Who will sing this song? Still in the air. (They should have Bono. That would be a “get”.)
I heard Reba McEntire will sing the Diane Warren penned “Somehow You Do”. This is Warren’s 13th appointment. It would be great if she won already.
Variety reports Beyonce may be performing “Be Alive” from the Compton tennis courts where Richard Williams started out with daughters Serena and Venus. Sounds strange, wouldn’t it be better to have it live at the Dolby Theater? Never mind. Beyoncé also does what she wants.
But there will be a lot of music and buzz on Sunday night one way or another.
I look forward to these Oscars. I hope everyone is too!
