The Wombats release a one-of-a-kind, carbon-negative NFT fan
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 25, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Kollectiff, the leading web3 agency taking brands to the Metaverse, announces a carbon-negative collaboration with British indie legends The Wombats, who last week released their fifth studio album Don’t you fix the world.
Fifteen years and three UK top 5 albums into their career, The Wombats will meet their fans in the Metaverse for the first time with the help of Kollectiff. The initiative will include a Metaverse-ready avatar and concert, exclusive AMA access, live acoustic performances, never-before-seen B-sides, rare memorabilia, VIP tickets, and more.
The Wombats will release 3,000 unique NFTs that will be Metaverse-ready. This drop will be particularly unique, as it will be completely carbon negative, ensuring that all of the mint’s carbon emissions are offset 20 times. NFTs can be purchased/minted on The Wombats website for 0.07 ETH on February 8.
It’s more than your traditional NFT as fans and holders will have access to a Rubik’s Cube blockchain game that will unlock tons of exclusive utilities unique to NFT holders. NFTs will be ready for Metaverse – an avatar that can be used in The Sandbox decentralized gaming virtual world. All buyers will also receive unique blockchain carbon credits from Moss (the world’s largest environmental platform).
“We look forward to bringing this unique NFT experience to our fans which will culminate with a concert at Kollectiff Stadium in the Metaverse,” said Dan Haggis, drummer for The Wombats. “Kollectiff helped us create a carbon neutral NFT because the environment and the fight against climate change are important to us.
Kollectiff will send NFT carbon credit holders via AirDrop. The Wombats wanted to make sure this project was good for the Earth since carbon emissions are a big factor in mining. This project not only offsets carbon emissions, but also makes it a carbon negative NFT collection. When someone hits an NFT in this collection, a carbon credit will be purchased. Each mint generates 45 kilograms of carbon (about 135,000 kg in total), so this project will include purchasing 3,000 tons of carbon offsets to make this campaign carbon negative.
After purchasing the NFT, fans will have access to a Rubik’s Cube Blockchain game in Wombat World. The game is like a classic Rubik’s Cube that people have to solve on the blockchain to access special features and events so they can engage with the group. There will be live “Ask Me Anything” with the band, live acoustic performances, rare memorabilia, VIP tour tickets and more for owners of the collectible. Additionally, B-sides that did not make the final album will be included as unlockable content in the Rubik’s Cube game.
“We’ve been fans of The Wombats and have seen their success over the years, so we’re thrilled to help them be early adopters of the Metaverse,” said Rupert Runewitsch, COO of Kollectiff. “We are happy to have been able to find a carbon neutral solution to work together to save planet Earth while being innovative.”
For their final leg of the tour, the Wombats will take their show to the Metaverse. The Wombats will be the first to play a gig at Metaverse Stadium in the Kollectiff Meta Stadium, modeled after the famous Brixton Academy in the UK, a hall dear to the Wombats. The web3 Kollectiff agency are the meta-lessors and builders.
“The team at The Kollectiff has brought this possibility to life for fans and newcomers looking to have an immersive band experience in an iconic location, while being closer to artists around the world through the virtual game world. The Sandbox,” said Sébastien Borget, COO and co-founder of The Sandbox. “We are thrilled to welcome the Wombats to engage and socialize with their fans.”
After breaking into Liverpool in 2007, a global indie mainstay for 15 years, the Wombats are attracting a wider audience than ever. The viral success of Oliver Nelson’s remix of their 2015 hit “Greek Tragedy” on TikTok has thrilled a whole new generation of fans, a feat they’ve managed to repeat over and over since their debut in 2007. A guide to love, loss and despair. Used in over 600,000 videos (some of which have over 100 million views), the remix soared to over 30 million streams, boosting the original to 120 million streams and sending it gold in the US. . It helped the band surpass 1.5 billion streams worldwide, also amassing an additional 2.4 million monthly listeners on Spotify since January alone; another illustration, if needed, of the Wombats’ ability to reach new generations of fans thanks to the timeless power of their writing and their lyrics.
With their biggest world tour ever slated for 2022, including a landmark show at London’s O2, and their fan and critically acclaimed new album, the most exciting chapter in the history of one of Britain’s most adored bands is well and truly underway.
